HOW WE’LL WORK

How we’ll work. At your child’s pace.

I meet children where they are. Some kids like to talk. Others do better drawing or playing a game while we talk.

I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy to help children notice thoughts and feelings and practice new skills. Attachment-based work helps us strengthen the relationships that help your child feel safe.

You are part of this work. We talk regularly about what I’m seeing and what you can try at home.

QUESTIONS

Common questions. Plain answers.

More questions
What ages does Erika see for child therapy?

Erika sees children starting at age 7, as well as teens and adults up to age 40. If your child is younger than 7, you are still welcome to call. The free 15-minute consultation is a quick way to describe what you are seeing and talk through where to start.

How are parents involved in child therapy?

Parents are part of child therapy with Erika. She meets with parents to understand their concerns and their child’s history, then checks in regularly about progress and ideas to try at home. How often parents join sessions depends on the child’s age and needs.

What happens in a child’s therapy session?

A child’s session with Erika may include talking, drawing or games alongside practical skills. The goal is for the child to feel comfortable enough to share, and to practice new ways of handling feelings, worries or conflict at school and at home. Sessions run 45 to 90 minutes.

How should I tell my child about starting therapy?

Keep it simple and honest. Many parents say something like, “You’re going to meet Erika. She helps kids with feelings and worries.” Avoid presenting therapy as a punishment. Erika can suggest wording that fits your child’s age during the free consultation.
